About Ala

Ala Paredes is a Sydney-based illustrator and designer who loved doodling even before she learned to walk properly.

In 2009, she decided to switch careers from TV presenting to commercial art and got her diploma in "Design and Illustration" at Sydney Design Centre, Enmore, taking home the State Medal.

Her very first illustration gig was courtroom sketching at a trial for a politically motivated mass-killing of journalists and civillians (known worldwide as the "Ampatuan Massacre"), while on holiday in the Philippines.

But outside the suspense of the courtroom, Ala likes creating evocative illustrations that surprise and delight. She likes to combine traditional and digital techniques while incorporating interesting textures and fabric into her work. She holds a fascination for religious iconography, tattoos, graphic novels, and yummy things.

Her illustration blog is at alamundo.tumblr.com.
